Drains to Harbour - Chapter 1

Last week, Camellia came to our class to speak to us about the 'Drains to Harbour' Programme.  She is taught us about the difference between a 'stormwater drain' and a 'wastewater drain.'  We walked around our school environment and identified the two drain types.  Our class took Camellia over to our school drain, and showed her the work our school had done over the years to protect it and its species.  We then did an activity using a bowl of water.  Children had to place what was in their container into the bowl.  We watched as the freshwater changed colour and texture due to the impact that these chemicals and rubbish had.  We all agreed that we ALL have responsibility to look after our local streams and rivers.
