Last week, the children wrote their goals for the term.  They looked at some of their assessment i.e., basic facts, writing sample, knowledge and strategy maths test, etc.  The children had to decide on a curriculum subject, a social goal (from the school motto) and a key competency goal.  They needed to be specific in their goal; they then decided on a 'next step' on how they were going to achieve that particular goal.

Creating Patterns in the Discovery Room

The purpose of our time in the 'Discovery Room' is to explore and learn in smaller groups about the world in a variety of ways.   For our last visit to the room, we used our hands and feet to create patterns with paint.  We changed the position and angle of our hands while experimenting with different shades of paint.  Our time in the Discovery Room is special and we enjoy learning new ideas that are connected to the 'concept'.

Dutch lesson

Today we learned some phrases in Dutch: goedemorgen (good morning),  hallo (hello), goedenacht (good night), and dag (bye). We had lots of fun greeting each other in Dutch, and found that Dutch and English greetings are not very different. We also learned that you can start communicating with someone in a different language if you only know a few words in that language.
After practicing some basic greetings we looked at the Dutch names for shapes: cirkel, ovaal, vierkant, rechthoek, driehoek, vijfhoek, zeshoek, achthoek and ruit. We quickly saw that Dutch names for shapes show a pattern: -hoek means angle, and the word in front tells us how many angles the shape has. Driehoek means three angles, or three corners, and is called triangle in English.
Well done team :-))

Our Swimming Photos

For the past four weeks, we have been improving our swimming skills at the Whangarei Aquatic Centre. We have been learning about streamline, using a flutter board, breathing, as well as , survival skills while in the water. Next week, we will write reflections about improvements we have achieved while in the pool. A special thank you to those parents/caregivers who came along and supported us. God bless to you all.
